Google’s online applications have really brought the idea of cloud computing to the average user for a few years now with products like Gmail and Google Docs. The idea of access to anything you need from any internet connected device is an enticing one that has been gathering steam as of late. One of Google’s main targets for these online services are businesses. These free services that store all data in “the cloud” should sound like a perfect alternative to many of the older, paid for software that these companies have been using for years, right? It seems as of late Google services like Gmail have had some sporadic downtime which for the average user would be a minor annoyance but for a major company could have much bigger, expensive consequences. A great article over on PC World details how these spots of downtime could be hurting the credibility of cloud computing and be pushing it further in the back of the minds of CEOs.

It appears that the world of Android modding is about to become a riskier hobby. According to AndroidandMe.com one of the Android communities biggest modders recently received a cease and desist request from Google thus halting any further progress on the Cyanogen Mod. Cyanogen’s tweaked Android OS allowed extra features such as installing downloaded apps to the SD card and had general speed improvements. It appears that the new features didn’t bother Google as much as him distributing their closed-source applications like Gmail and Youtube. Be sure to read the full story over on AndroidandMe.
